Feijoas

Feijoas or Pineapple Guava are a hardy, decorative, slow growing shrubby tree that when established, will tolerate both drought and wet conditions.

This grafted, self-pollinating Feijoa is extremely frost hardy and fruit reaches their full maturity in  March - May.  Ripe fruit will fall to the ground but can be picked just prior, to reduce bruising.

Feijoa flesh is juicy and has a clear sweet seed pulp and a firmer, slightly gritty, flesh nearer the skin (similar to Guava) . Both the flavour and the aroma is aromatic and sweet.

Feijoas can be eaten fresh from the tree, used in jams, chutneys, jellies, baking and more recently wine.

Cultivars include Mammoth and Nazimet.
