 Rory Cullinan, General Manager

 As General Manager, Rory brings an impressive and diverse range of qualifications and hands-on experience to his role. An experienced Manager with an Advanced Diploma in Agriculture from the Royal Agricultural College in the United Kingdom, Rory is responsible for the overall management of the nursery, including the efficient operation and profitability of all sectors of the business.

Since joining in September 2008, he has driven the strategic objectives of the business through positive people management, tracking and monitoring of the business’ growth, new product development and improved production efficiencies.

Having spent 10 years as a commercial farmer himself, Rory has a genuine appreciation of our grower’s priorities and a clear understanding that the quality of our products is paramount to the long-term livelihood of our customers. With this comes the responsibility to supply a plant with the best possible genetics.

Rory’s hands-on management style includes both daily and weekly meetings with staff to ensure systems and processes are working well and that all staff share the same values.

 

 

 

Denis Roe, Technical Manager

After working for an avocado company in South Africa for 15 years, Denis arrived on our shores to join Birdwood Nursery in January 2010. Denis has a Masters degree in Agricultural Science majoring in Horticulture from Natal University. 

Here at Birdwood Denis has a very hands-on role which takes in all technical aspects of the business from disease control and irrigation management to his responsibility for gaining industry related accreditation, including HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Point) which is now in place.

One of the highlights of Denis’ role is the opportunity to visit clients in the field and support them through any post-planting issues they may have.  Denis believes ‘if our clients are doing well, we are doing well.’

 

 

 

 

 

 

Karyn Lindsay, Customer Service Officer

Karyn came to Birdwood Nursery in April 2010 with a wealth of customer service experience under her belt. Prior to joining us, Karyn successfully ran her own business for 4 years, was employed as the State Manager of a furniture components business and enjoyed a range of other sales and customer service roles.

Using her broad experience and in-depth range of skills, Karyn is responsible for liaising with nurseries and chain stores on the east coast of Australia. This essential role includes handling product enquiries, orders and managing stock control. Karyn also uses her extensive product knowledge to advise nurseries on our range including which varieties can be grown in which regions according to environmental conditions and the various State quarantine regulations.

With a genuine love of customer service, she relishes the challenge of solving a customer’s problem or getting to the bottom of an issue.

 

 

 

 

 

 Sheryl Pelling, Accounts Manager

Sheryl started with Birdwood Nursery in April 2009, taking on the all important role of everything financial. Having worked in the accounts field for over 20 years Sheryl is a true professional with a wealth of experience across a broad range of industries.

Sheryl has a Diploma in Accounting and prior to joining us she ran her own bookkeeping business for 6 years,  with clients on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane.  Having grown up in the area, she is proud to work for a local business that is taking their product to the rest of the country - and the world.
